Stuff I wish I thought of (v. 1.0)
Everything is going mobile. First it was cell phones, then it was the iPod. Web Applications have become increasingly popular, thanks to companies like Google offering Google Docs and whatnot. They allow you to use a program and save your data on the web instead of locally, so you can access it anywhere you can get an Internet connection (where can’t you get an Internet connection?). But how do you keep everything organized? You have your email on one site, your chat on another, you blog somewhere else, and on it goes. Shouldn’t there be a way to keep everything in one place, like you do on your desktop?
Introducing, Desktoptwo. For the low cost of zero dollars (aka – free), you can get a 1 GB hard drive, email, address book, calendar, website editor, blog, IM, mp3 player, OpenOffice, message boards, RSS reader, favorites/bookmarks, and chat. It is a web based desktop where you can manage everything you need to be productive and entertained, and it goes with you wherever you go, without having to carry anything in your pocket. For a nominal monthly fee, you can add HD space. There are also ads along the top of your screen, but they are relatively easy to ignore. I have signed up and logged in already and have found it to be incredibly useful having everything in the same location. Already have an email address? Set up the POP settings and have your mail sent right to your new email client. View it in full screen mode and you won’t even realize it’s not your real desktop. One feature I would like to see is a sync to your cell phone, so you could really access everything anywhere. For now, simply imagine the possibilities.
