Where to begin
It all started six months ago. Windows XP was giving me another headache, so I popped in my Knoppix live bootable cd and wiped my hard drive. Freedom. But where now?
Eventually I landed on Ubuntu’s “Fiesty Fawn” release and installed it, determined never to look back. But I soon realized I bit off more than I could chew, and wound up digging myself into a deeper hole.
Through a confusingly random series of events, I shamefully and regrettably pay $59 to Best Buy to simply tell me what I already know; my HD is dead. Like an idiot I ran out and bought Windows XP Home off the shelf. With a nonreturnable, useless OS on my hands I gave up, put away my HP laptop, and tried to forget all about it.
Fast forward to last week, when my new 80 GB Seagate SATA hard drive arrives in the mail from NewEgg. I unscrew the frame from the old one, put in the new one, and plug it in. Then I put the Windows XP cd in the drive and boot up, fingers crossed.
